BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport®
BOTOX® Cosmetic - BOTOX® Cosmetic is a naturally occuring botulinum toxin purified by Allergan that is injected into facial muscles in very low doses to help them relax. If the skin is bent harshly over and over, when the muscles relax a line remains. The goal of BOTOX® Cosmetic is to PREVENTIVELY relax certain facial muscles so that lines do not develop. Dysport® - Dysport® is another form of botulinum toxin produced by Medicis. It can be used in much the same way as BOTOX® Cosmetic but is dosed slightly differently. For more information see "Dysport Medication Guide".
What else is Botulinum toxin used for? The FDA has approved botulinum toxin for other spastic muscle issues as well as for treatment of excessive underarm sweating.
